MESSAGE FROM THE EDITORS
Dr. Kitty Fortner and Dr. Tiffany Roberts, December 2020
As the year comes to a close, we reflect on this past year and look ahead to new beginnings. In November of 2019, JALE (International), lost our beloved Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Heather Rintoul. A highly regarded international scholar, Heather authored numerous articles and book chapters on values, ethics, and educational leadership. Heather lived her values; her commitment to mentorship/students was unparalleled and her influence, far-reaching. At the time of her passing, Dr. Rintoul was also serving as the Executive Director of our parent organization, the Consortium for the Study of Leadership and Ethics in Education (CSLEE, International). Heather’s friendship and leadership have been and continue to be missed.
The 2020 year was one of great change, that required individuals and communities from all over the world to reconsider the multiple dimensions and meanings of care, empathy, diversity, justice, education, authenticity, values, ethics, and leadership. While the global pandemic illuminated our collective strength in uncertain times, it also brought to light issues of justice and demanded a global ethical call to action. We are living in a portal of opportunity to be a voice for justice. A new term, ‘pandemic justice’ has been coined in recognition of the multiple pandemics that we are simultaneously experiencing and allows us space to re-vision how we address issues of justice in education.
With each edition of the Journal of Authentic Leadership in Education, we are pleased to invite you into the conversation around authentic leadership. Our international journal is published quarterly online (March, June, September, and December) with deadlines for submissions on the first day of January, April, July, and October.
We look forward to serving and working alongside you!
